A few years back, 2N joined the Axis Communications family. We understood that 2N aligned with our Axis values and so, here was an opportunity to bring 2N solutions to the Canadian market.
As we developed the product lines and our skillset, we understood how the technology vision of 2N perfectly matched ours. In addition, it was in perfect sync with the convergence of analog-to-IP solutions in the access control sector.
In the physical security industry, Axis has been heavily involved in the convergence of analog video to IP. Today, we are creating a similar pattern with the access control solutions.
The typical legacy systems will require a controller which is usually centralized in a communication room and, this infrastructure will necessitate to run a cable to every door end point to which will be a lot of devices to connect such as REX, door contact, strikes, and reader. These cables after will all go to the intelligent or analog controller. This scenario is costly in labour and material.
An innovative and differentiating added value.
So, what’s different? We have centralized everything at the edge of the door. We created a new thought cabling process where only one cat 5/6 cable goes to the entrance point. We are making this door a 'smart door'. Having the technology at the edge eliminates a lot of infrastructure costs such as conduit run, the space requirement for mechanical or communication rooms.
Now whether it’s a small or large enterprise system it will allow adding these endpoints just by a simple network drop. This is just like any IoT infrastructure which, extend benefit such as health monitor, giving real-time feedback to the smart door.
Another benefit in comparison with centralized controllers that controls multiple doors where if the controller fails it will take multiple doors with it.
We can’t conclude without mentioning credential management. A pain point for access control systems at times. The capacity to access all the edge devices online offer the possibility to revoke or enroll credential rapidly. User and device management are performed in a much quicker turnaround. The last great perk is it will present the possibility to work with our new technology such as WaveKey or, the 2N reader with a built-in controller.
