When Axis was founded in the mid-1980s, the aim was changing the way people thought about and used digital devices. Since our first innovation with print servers through to what we’ve become known for today - network cameras - we’ve grown to become the market leader and as a trusted manufacturer. Since then, we’ve quickly expanded our innovations to become a leader in IoT devices for complete security solutions.
“How do we innovate at Axis? We recognize an issue and work on it. It’s part of our DNA, you can see it through our history.” Keith D’Sa, Country Manager, Axis Canada.
In 1996, Axis Communications launch the world’s first network camera, the AXIS Net Eye 200. At the time, the idea of using network technology to connect traditionally analog devices and making them ‘intelligent’ was new.
While developing our first network cameras, we realized there was nothing on the market for image-processing chipsets. It was late autumn 1999 when products with our very first ARTPEC system on chip (SoC) were released.
By the 2000s, we looked at how our products were integrated and interacted with other security systems. We found out that a lot could be improved. Again, recognizing an issue and working on finding a solution as part of our DNA, so we started to develop new pieces of those solutions and transformed more analog devices into IP.
That’s how in March 2015, we launched our first network speaker: The C3003-E Horn Speaker.
Thirty years ago, the advent of Axis network video systems transformed the way businesses protected their people assets operations. Now, Axis network audio systems do the same for how businesses use audio. Network audio systems bring many benefits of IP to the world of audio and offer an array of features for an improved audio system.
Axis speakers aren’t just speakers. They’re complete audio systems in a single unit including both hardware and software, so you’ll need much less equipment – and much less space – than you would with an analog system. Built-in, pre-calibrated digital signal processors alleviate the need for sound technicians and ensure crystal clear quality sound, interference-free. Two-way audio, thanks to built-in microphones, means you can even carry on a conversation via the speakers depending on model and installation. They’re true IT devices with intelligence on the edge. In addition, Axis network audio systems can be tested, maintained, and troubleshot remotely. They’re also easy to adapt and scale and open standards like SIP facilitate integration with other systems.
More than just background music.
Network audio is a versatile technology, that can be used for security purposes such as helping to prevent crime but also for safety purposes in multiple environments and, finally, for business operations through optimizing customer experience and efficiency.
It brings security from reactive to proactive by offering improved asset protection, optimized resource allocation, and more. Network audio also increase safety. While the camera records and keeps evidence to prove a situation happened, audio solutions allow you to intervene with the scene in real-time to help prevent unwanted activities. For example, adding speakers throughout a university campus allows the university support to staff to communicate with students, as well as directly address those intent on crime or antisocial behaviour. Network audio can also contribute to increasing operational efficiency and commercial performance in various sectors, and retail is a great example. It can be used to create an atmosphere using background music or share marketing messaging like in-store advertisements and news about special offers. Those have been shown to be effective in improving sales and the customer experience.
