Axis nominated for Security & Fire Excellence Awards

Axis has been recognised as a finalist at the upcoming Security & Fire Excellence Awards. Axis, a five-time Security Hardware Manufacturer of the Year award winner and 2023 Sustainable Partner of the awards, has received nominations in five individual categories for the event, due to be held on 4th December in London.

The prestigious Security & Fire Excellence Awards event, now in its 24th year, highlights the best people, projects and processes in the security and fire safety sectors. Its finalists are selected through a rigorous independent judging process, verified by The Independent Awards Standards Council and accredited by the council’s Awards Trust Mark.

Axis Communications Regional Director for Northern Europe, Linn Storäng, comments: “Axis is proud to once again be recognised by the Security & Fire Excellence Awards jury. It is particularly pleasing to reach the final stage in so many diverse categories. That range reflects the breadth of Axis abilities and activities within the security space, from top to bottom, and the innovation that Axis and its partners bring to the physical and logical aspects of security.”

Security Hardware / Software Manufacturer of the Year

This award aims to recognise the manufacturer which has gone above and beyond in innovation, marketing, and a commitment to physical, integration and cyber security standards. This new category replaces the Security Hardware Manufacturer of the Year award, an accolade which Axis has retained each year since the award was established in 2018.

“It is a great honour for Axis that the Security & Fire Excellence Awards judging panel has selected us as a finalist in its headline category for a sixth time,” states Linn Storäng. “We are proud that our efforts in innovation and driving forward security standards continue to be recognised – and Axis will strive to continue to be recognised as a market leader in security far into the future.”

Security Hardware Product Innovation of the Year

The AXIS Q1656-DLE Radar-Video Fusion Camera, a revolutionary hybrid device which combines the power of a Q-line camera and a fully integrated radar into a single unit, proudly takes its place as a finalist in this category. Designed to provide unrivalled scene intelligence, the Q1656-DLE provides state-of-the-art object classification powered by deep learning, the ability to detect movement in complete darkness, and a high level of robustness against physical and cyber threats.

Security Project of the Year

Axis, its access control software partner Quanika, and UK-based systems integrator Data Installation & Supplies (DIS) (Northern) collaborated in late 2022 to overhaul the access control and time & attendance functions of Next Plc’s logistics centres. This was a complex installation completed under significant time pressure.

Brett Elliott, Head of Loss Prevention, Warehouse & Distribution, Next Plc, describes the results: “Our old system was extremely outdated, closed protocol and not suited to the modern world in which we live today. There was no perfect-fit solution available so with the help of Quanika, a technology partner to Axis, DIS has delivered an Axis access control solution which gives us the flexibility to change with the times and better face the new challenges of tomorrow.”

Security or Fire Best Company to Work For

The strong company values, health and wellbeing strategy, benefits package, positive working environment, and employee flexibility at Axis sees it being recognised as a proud finalist in the Best Company to Work For category. Axis has previously been named one of the best workplaces by Great Place to Work in the UK, USA and Canada on separate occasions.

“At Axis Communications, our people are at the centre of everything we do,” states Natalie Barbi, HR Manager, Northern Europe. “We strive to create high employee engagement by investing in a meaningful and inclusive employee wellbeing strategy. We are delighted to reach the final stages in the ‘Best Company to Work For’ category and will continue to drive Axis forward as an industry leader in employee wellbeing.”

Security or Fire Sustainability Champion

As one of the first signatories of the UN Global Compact, Axis has long built its operational strategy around a core of sustainability. Axis nomination in this category is thanks to its focus on reducing the environmental impact of its products through power efficiency, green design, and a measured commitment to responsible innovation centred around science-based targets.

“Axis is working harder than ever in the sustainability space,” states Kieran Byrne, UK Architect & Engineering Manager at Axis. “We are removing BFR/CFR flame retardants from our products, we are eliminating PVC from future lines, we’re promoting the circular economy through our material choices, and we have committed to a company-wide goal of reducing emissions throughout our value chain ahead of the two-year SBTi deadline. For Axis, sustainability is far more than a box to tick – it is central to what we do.”

The Security & Fire Excellence Awards will be held on Monday 4th December 2023 at JW Marriott Grosvenor House on Park Lane in London, UK.
