Cutting edge 'Ice Cream Video Care' gives manufacturers extra eyes on the line

Katrin Andersson, Managing Director, Tetra Pak North Europe

Tetra Pak in collaboration with Axis Communications, a leader in network video, has developed a new digital solution that will give ice cream producers real-time visibility across every stage of the production line.

Called ‘Ice Cream Video Care’, the innovation is the latest brainchild from the six-year collaboration in process monitoring between Tetra Pak and Axis Communications. The cutting-edge monitoring solution uses network cameras as smart sensors to provide deeper operational insight and improved control across the process line.

Built on Axis’ advanced IP camera technology, such as Q-line dome and modular F-series cameras and designed to perform reliably in low temperature and harsh production environments, the solution offers constant, high-resolution visibility into areas that operators traditionally cannot see or safely reach. Up to 16 cameras can be installed along each ice cream line via Axis video management software, AXIS Camera Station, enabling safe, remote inspection without disrupting operations.

The new solution taps into increasing consumer expectations around food quality, consistency and production transparency. By introducing it into their ice cream lines, manufacturers can take advantage of the latest digitalisation tools to improve control, efficiency, and product integrity.

The collaboration between Tetra Pak and Axis Communications began with camera-supported observation in juice filling and has since evolved into broader applications across food production. Tetra Pak Ice Cream Video Care marks the first major expansion of camera-based process monitoring into ice cream production lines.

“The food industry benefits from close collaboration and a willingness to innovate together," says Katrin Andersson, Managing Director, Tetra Pak North Europe. “Tetra Pak and Axis Communications are integrating deep knowledge of food production with advanced monitoring technology for manufacturers to gain greater insight into their operations. The result is improved efficiency, reduced waste, and better quality control which support a more productive and sustainable food industry.”

"Innovation at Axis is driven by the desire to solve complex challenges in new ways,” states Linn Storäng, Regional Director, Northern & Eastern Europe at Axis Communications. “By integrating our advanced IP camera technology into Tetra Pak’s production lines, we are moving beyond traditional surveillance and using video as a powerful data source. This collaboration proves that smart, network-based imaging can thrive even in harsh, low-temperature environments, providing manufacturers with the 'extra eyes' needed to optimise efficiency and ensure the highest standards of food safety.”
