Axis sponsors ThoughtLab's Building a Future Ready City study

ThoughtLab’s new Building a Future-Ready City study provides valuable information for Axis, our ecosystem partners, and local government stakeholders as we work to build cities for the future.

Axis is a proud sponsor of global research firm, ThoughtLab’s new study: Building a Future-Ready City. This study, conducted together with Hatch, a global engineering company, takes a closer look at how cities around the world are planning to meet and navigate post-pandemic expectations and challenges for citizens, stakeholders, and businesses.

“Cities are dynamic environments, and the speed of change they are facing has increased to unprecedented levels. A byproduct of this change is uncertainty. Municipal stakeholders are charged with doing what is best for their communities while being good stewards of public funds. It is difficult for these stakeholders to perform these responsibilities in the face of so much uncertainty,” said Kevin Taylor, Segment Development Manager for Cities at Axis Communications, “Third-party independent research, like this project conducted by ThoughtLab, are important information sources that local government stakeholders can look to for guidance, for best practices, for encouragement, and for inspiration”.

ThoughtLab’s latest study surveyed 200 cities in many regions around the world with various population sizes and income levels to understand their strategies and plans for becoming future-ready. Additionally, 2,000 residents in six regions around the world were surveyed. Having this additional data directly from citizens gives cities insights to understand how their plans align with citizen behaviors and expectations.

The study examines strategies and plans across seven topics:

  • Government and education
  • Living and health
  • Mobility and transportation
  • Energy, water, and other utilities
  • Public safety and security
  • Environment
  • Digital infrastructure and networks

Using the key findings from the research, ThoughtLab created an eBook to give cities an actionable roadmap for becoming future-ready. The eBook includes insights into:

  • What it means to be a ‘future-ready’ city
  • In what way citizens are expecting their cities to change and how cities can incorporate this into their future plans
  • The ways technology and innovation play a role in cities reaching their goals and overcoming challenges
  • Why cities need to address their requirements for resiliency, sustainability, inclusiveness, and economic development.

As a sponsor for this study, Axis understands the value that this information has for our ecosystem partners and government stakeholders. This report’s valuable data is critical as we continue to look for ways to better work towards a smarter and safer world.
