Axis Communications is proud to highlight a recent contribution made this month as part of a long-standing effort that combines industry education with meaningful philanthropic impact.
After almost 18 years and 30,000 copies sold, Fredrik Nilsson’s acclaimed book, Intelligent Network Video: Understanding Modern Video Surveillance Systems, published by CRC Press, has served as a cornerstone educational resource for security professionals. The release of the book’s third edition in late 2023 further expanded its reach, with all royalties directed to the nonprofit Mission 500— exemplifying the security industry’s commitment to knowledge sharing and social good.
In a continued commitment, Nilsson and Axis donate 100% of the book’s royalties to Mission 500. The most recent January 2026 donation of $37,839, facilitated by Axis Communications, is a direct result of strong sales and wide industry adoption. Combined, the second and third editions have generated nearly $60,000 in total contributions.
Nilsson’s book has become a go-to guide for security professionals and technology enthusiasts. It is widely used in corporate training programs and by industry associations to advance knowledge and onboard new talent—reinforcing the industry’s collective investment in its future.
"At Axis, we foster a culture of innovation and responsibility, and Fredrik embodies that spirit perfectly," said Nikki Nemarich, director of marketing, Axis Communications, Americas and Mission 500 board member. "We are incredibly proud to see his thought leadership and passion for education create such a positive impact. This initiative is a testament to how individual expertise, when shared, can uplift an industry and support vital community work."
The success of the book highlights a clear demand for quality educational content and the vibrancy of the industry. Each purchase represents a dual investment: one in professional growth and another in the well-being of those served by Mission 500.
Mission 500 is a nonprofit organization rooted in the security industry, bringing together companies, professionals, and volunteers to support children and families in need across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Through fundraising, volunteer initiatives, and community outreach, Mission 500 channels the collective strength of the industry toward meaningful social impact. Axis Communications’ support of Mission 500 reflects a shared commitment to education, service, and responsibility—values that align closely with Axis’s culture and its belief that technology leadership goes hand in hand with giving back to the communities it serves.
“As a founding board member, Fredrik has been a steadfast supporter of Mission 500,” said Jason Lutz, board chair of Mission 500. “This ongoing contribution, driven by his expertise and the industry's embrace of his educational work, is invaluable. It powerfully reinforces corporate social responsibility, directly enabling us to continue our vital mission of helping children and families in need.”
