Demand for more advanced physical access control systems is on the rise. From large facilities, such as critical infrastructure sites, to smaller systems in offices, schools and more, organizations are seeking enhanced security for their premises.
When it comes to installing network door security for efficient access control, it’s important to opt for solutions that not only offer seamless integration and installation but can also scale to meet your current and future needs.
Axis is committed to providing smarter, more flexible alternatives to traditional access control, offering the benefits of open architecture IP for installations of all sizes. Our access control portfolio is expanding over the coming months to offer increasingly sophisticated network door controllers. We recently launched the AXIS A12 Network Door Controller Series, including the AXIS A1210 and AXIS A1210-B models. In the coming months, we will also be launching AXIS A1610 and AXIS A1610-B – versatile and edge-based network door controllers.
Here we examine why it’s worth considering these scalable, edge-based network door controllers, not only in terms of future proofing but for the distinct benefits they provide today.
Access control with edge-based simplicity
Unlike traditional alternatives, access control solutions from Axis are edge-based and streamlined. Connected to, and powered by, your existing network using Power over Ethernet (PoE), Axis solutions don’t require complex and time-consuming wiring to a central decision-making server. This reduces material and labor costs, while simplifying the process for any required installation changes in future.
Upon installation, our network door controller units are positioned by each door to independently manage all access control. With intelligence on the edge, both the AXIS A12 and AXIS A16 series offer an agile access control system that can internally handle all tasks related to door access, even if the network is down, so you don’t need to compromise on security.
The configuration of these network door controllers can be changed to meet your new requirements as your access control needs evolve. For instance, using network door controllers like these offer flexible and secure authentication using different types of credentials – whether that’s traditional access types such as card or PIN codes, or dynamic QR codes for visitor access and license plate verification for vehicle access.
Easy installation with innovative, compact design
This flexibility extends to the design of our access control solutions. Our latest network door controllers are scalable, and suitable for installations of all sizes.
The streamlined design and plenum rating of the AXIS A1210 allows for fast and easy installation anywhere. With a smaller footprint than previous Axis network door controller models, the AXIS A1210 is particularly compact and ideal for installation in small spaces: it is a significant 50 percent smaller than earlier versions of this model. Offering control for one door, this product is well-suited to smaller establishments.
AXIS A1210-B also offers easy installation in areas where space is limited, as the ‘barebone’ model allows installers to mount multiple units in a rack or they can be stacked on top of each other. This is ideal for installation in small spaces, such as existing or newly installed cabinets. Plus, with a keyhole mounting plate and support for DIN rail mount, AXIS A1210-B enables fast and easy installation on walls.
The versatility and scalability of these competitively priced network door controllers sets them apart from traditional access control solutions, as they can be optimized for both small and large installations to meet any business need.
Built-in cybersecurity for enhanced access control
Integrated cyber protection is also a key consideration when it comes to selecting an access control solution. All products in the AXIS A12 Network Door Controller Series offer built-in cybersecurity features that help prevent unauthorized access and safeguard your system. For instance, Axis Edge Vault protects the device ID and simplifies authorization of Axis products on the end-user’s network. Furthermore, it ensures cryptographic keys such as the OSPD Secure Channel encryption key are safely and securely stored.
